Perfectly suited for long, narrow spaces such as corridors between furniture or entrances leading into your living room, these living room runners are as practical as they are decorative.

Choosing the right living room runner rug

When selecting rug for your living room, opting for a runner is a top choice. But, before choosing your living room runner, consider these key factors:

Size: Measure your intended space carefully. Standard living room runner widths range from 70–80 cm, with lengths from 200 cm to 400 cm.
Material: Choose wool for warmth and durability, cotton for softness, or synthetic fibres like polypropylene for easy cleaning and stain resistance.
Colour and pattern: Light-coloured runners brighten up darker rooms, while bold patterns can anchor and define your space.

How to style a runner rug in the living room

Behind or in front of a sofa: Create balance and guide movement through the room.
Alongside large furniture: Place beside a bookcase, TV stand or console table for added warmth and definition.
As a layering element: Pair with a large rug for a rich, multi-dimensional look.
To highlight architectural features: Use a living room runner to draw attention to fireplaces, windows or statement pieces.

What size runner rug is best for a living room?

The best living room runner rug size depends on your layout. For narrow walkways — or between furniture — 60–70 cm wide and 200–300 cm long is typically ideal. Always leave at least 5–10 cm of space between the rug edge and the nearest wall or furniture for a neat finish.

Can I use more than one runner in my living room?

Absolutely. Multiple living room runners can help define different zones in open-plan areas. Just be sure the styles complement each other and follow the same design palette.
