Shop medium rugs: Medium-sized rugs 160-229 cm

Medium rugs measure 160–229 cm on their longest side – large enough to anchor a sofa and coffee table or fill a double bedroom, without taking over a smaller room. Popular sizes in this range include 140 x 200 cm and 160 x 230 cm, alongside round, square and runner shapes. Not sure if a medium rug is the right fit? Check out our rug size guide.

Choosing a medium-sized rug

Within our medium size collection you’ll find a range of designs and styles in cotton and wool that are lightweight, easy to lift and simple to keep clean; deep-pile wool designs that feel warm underfoot and hold their shape under a coffee table or bed; and jute-blend and synthetic options built for busy hallways and kids’ rooms. Whichever finish you choose, a medium rug works well as the single piece in a smaller room, or layered under furniture in a larger one.

Yes, for a compact to mid-size living room – roughly 3 x 3.5 m and under. Place it so the front legs of your sofa and armchairs sit on the rug, which keeps the seating area feeling connected rather than the rug floating in the middle of the floor. For a larger, open-plan living room, a large rug will cover the space better.

For a four-seat table, 140 x 200 cm or 160 x 230 cm usually works, provided you allow at least 60–70 cm on each side so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out. A flatweave or low-pile medium construction is the practical choice here, since chairs move across it easily and spills wipe up faster.

Yes, a medium rug can work well beside or at the foot of a double bed, giving you a soft landing spot without covering the whole floor. If you want the rug to extend on three sides of the bed, or you have a king-size bed, a large rug will give you more even coverage.

Medium wool rugs are durable, warm and naturally stain-resistant – a dependable all-rounder for living rooms and bedrooms. A medium-sized cotton rug is lighter, easy to move and often machine washable, which suits busy households. Jute options add natural texture and works best in lower-traffic spots, while synthetic weaves like medium polypropylene rugs are practical and hard-wearing, a good match for hallways or kids’ rooms.
