Classic Chess - A Timeless Foundation for Your Home

Bring a sense of calm and structure to your room with this beautifully crafted wool rug, featuring a classic checkerboard design that adds a playful yet sophisticated touch to any interior.
The Classic Chess rug is a testament to refined simplicity, offering a tactile experience that feels soft and welcoming underfoot. Crafted from premium wool, this rug provides natural warmth and comfort, making it an excellent choice for living rooms or bedrooms where you want to create a cosy atmosphere. Its dense construction also helps to absorb sound, contributing to a quieter and more peaceful home environment.
Part of our Rugvista Premium collection, this piece showcases the dedication to quality that defines our most select offerings. Every detail has been considered to ensure that the rug not only looks beautiful but also stands up to daily life. The use of high-quality wool ensures a durable surface that maintains its appeal over time, providing lasting value for your home.
Versatility is at the heart of this design, as the rug is fully reversible, effectively doubling its lifespan and allowing you to refresh the look of your space with ease. It is also compatible with underfloor heating, ensuring that you can enjoy both the aesthetic charm of the rug and the practical comfort of a warm floor during colder months. This combination of function and style makes it a thoughtful addition to any modern household.
Proudly originating from India, this rug is produced with a commitment to responsible craftsmanship. We prioritise ethical production standards, ensuring that each piece meets rigorous quality benchmarks. By choosing this rug, you are investing in a product that balances traditional weaving techniques with the needs of a contemporary lifestyle, all while maintaining a focus on natural materials.

Design

The design features a bold and rhythmic checkerboard pattern that instantly anchors a room. The interplay between the deep blue and soft white tones creates a balanced aesthetic that feels both modern and clean.
With its geometric clarity, this rug serves as a versatile focal point that complements a variety of furniture styles. It offers a structured visual appeal that keeps a space feeling organised while adding a touch of personality through its classic motif.
Each Classic Chess rug is meticulously hand-woven by skilled artisans, a process that requires patience, precision, and years of experience. The craft involves carefully interlacing the wool fibres to create a sturdy and uniform surface, ensuring that the final result is both durable and visually balanced.
Because these rugs are created by hand, the production of a single piece can take several days of dedicated work. The artisans pay close attention to the tension and alignment of the weave, which is essential for achieving the clean, crisp lines of the checkerboard pattern. This human touch is what gives the rug its unique character and quality.
By supporting traditional hand-weaving methods, we help preserve artisanal skills while delivering a product that feels authentic and considered. The time and effort invested in every rug reflect our belief that true luxury lies in the details of the making process, resulting in a finished piece that is built to be a permanent part of your home.

80% Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.

20% Cotton

Cotton is a natural material that makes them a suitable option for people with allergies. The material is soft, durable and resilient, which makes them practical and comfortable for high-traffic areas such as the hallway, kitchen, and bathroom.

Care & Fair

Maintenance

  • To prevent shading and uneven wear, frequently rotate your rug.
  • Use a conventional hoover instead of a robotic cleaner to prevent any damage to the rug.
  • If you discover a loose thread on your rug, use scissors to gently cut it off. Avoid pulling the thread to prevent damage.
  • Shake the rug outdoors to remove any excess dirt or debris.

Installation

  • Fold marks may occur during transport. This is not a manufacturing defect and is easy to remedy. Simply turn your rug over, roll it tightly, and leave it for a few hours. Finally, lay out your rug and wait a few days until your rug lays flat against the floor.
  • As you unpack your new rug, you may notice a slight smell, which is due to the rug being tightly packed during transport. This is normal and will go away after a few days.
  • Make sure your floor is completely dry before placing the rug.
  • We recommend using an anti-slip mat with this rug, as color migration may occur onto light-colored floors.
  • Please be aware that trapped dirt, dust, or dampness under a rug may cause marks or scratches on sensitive floors.

Cleaning instructions

Do this
  • Spot clean only.
  • Address spills promptly to minimize staining. Blot the affected area gently with a damp, undyed cloth—never rub, as this may embed the stain further into the fibers. Protect the floor beneath the rug by ensuring it's properly covered during the cleaning process.
  • We recommend that you use Rugvista Stain Remover for this type of rug.
  • For hard-to-remove stains, we recommend you contact a professional rug cleaner.
Avoid this
  • Do not wash
  • Do not bleach.
  • Do not tumble dry.
  • Do not iron.
  • Do not dry clean.
