200 x 200 cm rugs

A 200 x 200 cm rug suits small to medium rooms, roughly up to 3 x 3 m for a living room or a small dining area. It also works as an accent in a larger room, such as a reading corner, a home office or a landing. In a larger living room, a 200 x 300 cm rug usually looks better proportioned.

A 200 x 200 rug works for a small round table seating four, up to about 100 cm across. That leaves roughly 50 cm of rug on each side, a little under the usual 60–70 cm guideline, so chairs may drift off the edge when pulled out. For a table wider than 100 cm, go up to a 250 x 250 rug.

Position it so the front legs of a two-seater sofa and any armchairs rest on the rug, with the coffee table in the middle. This ties the group together without the rug filling the whole room. Leave 20–30 cm of bare floor between the rug and the walls. For a larger three-seater sofa, check that the rug is still wide enough to sit under the front legs.
