Bokhara rugs take their name from the ancient Silk Road city of Bukhara in Central Asia, historically a vital trading hub for textiles and carpets. While the design roots are deeply embedded in the nomadic traditions of the region, the finest examples today are crafted in Pakistan, where weavers have mastered and refined these ancient techniques.

The term 2ply refers to the construction of the yarn, where two strands of wool are twisted together before being knotted. This method creates a pile that is significantly more durable, denser, and more lustrous than single-ply construction, ensuring the rug can withstand the rigors of modern life while retaining its soft texture.

Signature design elements of the Bokhara tradition include the repeating gul motifs, which are stylized, octagonal medallions arranged in precise rows across the field. These are typically framed by elaborate, geometric borders that provide a sense of structure and balance to the overall composition of the rug.

Owning a hand-knotted rug from this tradition is an opportunity to connect with a long lineage of craft. These rugs are highly valued for their ability to bring a sense of history and human presence into a room, serving as a testament to the skill and dedication required to create such enduring beauty.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and skill. With a density of 250,000 knots per m2, the artisan has invested significant time to ensure every detail is crisp and the structure is exceptionally robust.

The process of creating a rug of this size and complexity takes many months of dedicated effort. This density not only provides a sharp, clear pattern but also creates a dense, resilient pile that maintains its beauty and structural integrity over time.

Beyond the knotting process, the use of a sturdy foundation ensures that this rug remains stable and durable. This investment in human skill and material quality results in a finished product that is far more than a floor covering, representing a commitment to long-lasting quality and traditional artistry.
