Ziegler rugs are a fascinating evolution in the world of floor coverings, originating from a 19th-century collaboration between the Swiss firm Ziegler & Co and weavers in the Middle East. Seeking to create rugs that appealed specifically to Western tastes, they adapted traditional, intricate patterns into more open, floral designs with softer colour palettes.

The craftsmanship behind these pieces is rooted in the use of high-quality wool, which is often hand-spun to retain natural variations. These variations are a hallmark of authenticity, providing a depth of character and a subtle, organic texture that is highly sought after by collectors who appreciate traditional methods.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their elegant floral motifs and balanced compositions. While they often feature a central medallion or scattered floral sprays, the designs remain airy and accessible, allowing them to complement various interior styles without dominating the room.

Today, these rugs are celebrated for their ability to bridge the gap between historical heritage and modern living. Owning a piece from this tradition means acquiring a rug that carries the weight of history and the skill of generations, making it a valuable addition to any home.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a labour-intensive process that requires immense precision and patience. Each individual knot is tied by hand, resulting in a robust structure that ensures the rug will remain a long-lasting feature of your home.

With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, this piece represents a significant investment of time and skill. This high knot count allows for the sharp definition of the floral motifs and ensures a dense, resilient pile that holds its shape and beauty for years.

The 13.3 kg weight of this 210 x 154 cm rug is a testament to the generous use of quality materials. The effort taken to construct this piece by hand creates a level of durability and density that machine-made alternatives simply cannot match.
