Ziegler FineHand KnottedRug

Dark red / Brown212 x 312 cm

The Ziegler tradition finds its roots in the late 19th century when the Swiss firm Ziegler & Co. commissioned designs in the Middle East specifically for the Western market. These rugs were designed to bridge the gap between traditional aesthetics and the preferences of European homes, resulting in a style that is both sophisticated and accessible.

The craft of these rugs relies on the use of high-quality wool, which is carefully processed and knotted to create a pile that is both durable and soft. The traditional techniques used in Pakistan today maintain these historical standards, ensuring that the finished product possesses a natural lustre and a depth of colour that only improves with age.

Signature elements of this style include a palette of soft, muted tones often paired with a rich, inviting field colour. The designs typically feature large-scale, scrolling floral patterns that create a balanced, harmonious look. The border often mirrors the complexity of the central field, providing a framing effect that pulls the entire composition together.

Owning a Ziegler rug is an invitation to connect with a long-standing legacy of design and skill. These rugs are highly valued by collectors and homeowners alike for their ability to complement a wide range of interiors, serving as a testament to the enduring appeal of traditional craftsmanship in the modern home.

This rug is created through a meticulous hand-knotted process, where each individual knot is tied by skilled artisans. This labour-intensive method involves thousands of hours of work, ensuring the structural integrity and long-term durability that define such high-quality floor coverings.

The density and weight of 27.1 kg for this 312 x 212 cm piece are clear indicators of the substantial amount of material and time invested in its creation. This density provides a luxurious feel underfoot and contributes to the rug's ability to maintain its appearance and pile quality over many years of use.

By choosing a hand-knotted piece, you are supporting a craft tradition that prioritises precision and patience over mass production. The result is a durable, well-constructed rug that reflects the human effort required to achieve such a refined and consistent finish.
