Ziegler FineHand KnottedRug

Dark red / Orange180 x 254 cm

Ziegler rugs trace their origins back to the late 19th century, when a European firm established a workshop in the Middle East to create high-quality floor coverings specifically for the Western market. They sought to adapt traditional, intricate patterns into more spacious, decorative designs that felt at home in European and American interiors.

The term 'Ziegler' has since become synonymous with a specific approach to rug making that prioritises a balance between classic, complex motifs and a more open, airy composition. This tradition continues today in Pakistan, where artisans maintain these time-honoured methods to produce rugs that feel both historic and contemporary.

Signature elements of this style include the use of large, sweeping floral patterns and paisley-inspired boteh motifs that appear to float across the field. The borders are often formal and wide, creating a structured frame that grounds the more organic shapes in the centre, a hallmark of the sophisticated design language found in this tradition.

Owning a Ziegler rug is an invitation to connect with a long lineage of textile artistry. These pieces are valued by collectors and homeowners alike for their ability to bridge the gap between traditional craft and modern living, offering a sense of heritage and skill that adds depth and character to any space.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused work to its creation. Each individual knot is placed by hand, a process that requires patience and steady precision to ensure the pattern remains sharp and the pile stays dense and resilient.

The construction reflects a commitment to quality that mass-produced items cannot match. By hand-tying every strand, the artisans create a robust foundation that enhances the rug's durability and longevity, ensuring it remains a central, beautiful part of your home for years to come.

With a total weight of 18.7 kg, the rug demonstrates its substantial construction and the generous use of quality materials. This weight is a direct result of the dense, hand-knotted technique, which provides a heavy, high-quality feel that lays flat and holds its shape beautifully.
