YazdHand KnottedRug

Dark red / Brown304 x 392 cm

The Yazd rug hails from the historic city of Yazd in the Middle East, a location renowned for its ancient desert architecture and long-standing textile heritage. Rugs from this region are celebrated for their strength and refined aesthetic, often drawing inspiration from the surrounding landscapes and the rich artistic traditions of the area.

Yazd weaving is characterised by a commitment to durability and classic design. The techniques used are passed down through generations, emphasising a tight knotting style that results in a robust foundation. This focus on construction ensures that the rugs are not only beautiful but also capable of enduring the wear of daily life, making them a practical choice for high-traffic areas.

Visually, these rugs often feature a central medallion surrounded by a garden of floral motifs and sweeping vines. The borders are typically intricate, framing the field with repeating patterns that draw the eye inward. The colour palettes tend to be deep and saturated, reflecting a sophisticated approach to composition that has remained popular for centuries.

Collecting a Yazd rug is an investment in cultural heritage and skilled artistry. Each piece tells a story of the hands that created it and the region from which it originates. By bringing such a rug into your home, you are preserving a tradition of excellence and enjoying a piece that offers both historical weight and lasting functional beauty.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense skill and patience. Each individual knot is tied by hand, resulting in a dense and sturdy construction that ensures the rug remains a durable fixture in your home for many years to come.

The craftsmanship behind this piece is reflected in its substantial weight of 47.7 kg, which speaks to the high volume of wool used and the density of the knots. This weight is a testament to the effort invested by the artisan, as a rug of this scale and material density demands hundreds of hours of focused, expert labour to complete.

By choosing a hand-knotted rug, you are supporting a tradition of craft where quality is measured by precision and time. The structural integrity provided by the hand-tying process results in a pile that is not only visually sharp and detailed but also resilient enough to withstand the passage of time.
