Orange / Beige186 x 294 cm

Yazd rugs originate from the historic city of Yazd in the central part of the Middle East. Known for its ancient architecture and desert climate, the city has long been a centre for textile production, with a history of weaving that stretches back centuries. These rugs are renowned for their ability to blend traditional artistry with a distinct regional character that reflects the landscape and culture of their origin.

The craft of the Yazd rug is characterised by its reliance on time-honoured techniques that prioritise longevity and visual depth. The use of high-quality wool for the pile, combined with a sturdy foundation, creates a rug that is both soft to the touch and incredibly durable. This combination of materials and traditional knotting methods is why these rugs have remained sought after by collectors who value authentic craft.

Signature design elements of the Yazd tradition often include a central medallion surrounded by a field of intricate, flowing floral motifs and vines. The borders are typically formal and detailed, providing a frame that emphasises the complexity of the central design. While many follow traditional colour schemes, each weaver brings their own interpretation to the pattern, ensuring that every rug carries a unique artistic fingerprint.

Owning a piece from this tradition is about more than just decor. It represents a connection to a long-standing heritage of skilled labour and artistic expression. These rugs are valued for their cultural weight and their ability to bring a sense of history and human presence into a contemporary home, making them a meaningful investment for anyone who appreciates the intersection of beauty and tradition.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense focus and precision. With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, the creation of this 5.47 m2 piece represents approximately 875,000 individual knots, each tied by hand to ensure the structural integrity and longevity of the rug.

The time and human effort invested in this creation are significant, with a single artisan spending months dedicated to the intricate patterns and the consistency of the pile. This level of craftsmanship ensures a high degree of pattern definition and a robust, dense construction that machine-made alternatives simply cannot match.

The substantial weight of 21.9 kg is a direct result of the high-quality materials used and the density of the hand-knotted foundation. This weight confirms the density of the pile and the careful construction, providing a heavy, stable rug that lies perfectly flat and stands up to the demands of everyday life.
