The Wiss category of rugs is deeply rooted in the rich textile traditions of the Middle East. These rugs are highly regarded for their ability to blend formal, intricate designs with a sense of organic movement. Historically, such pieces were created in regions where weaving was not just a trade, but a central pillar of cultural expression, passed down through generations of families.

The term hand-knotted refers to the traditional technique where the pile is secured to the warp and weft foundation by tying individual knots. This method is the hallmark of premium rug making. It is a slow, rhythmic process that allows for a level of detail and durability that simply cannot be achieved by machines, ensuring that the rug remains a beautiful feature of your home for decades.

Visually, the Wiss tradition is often characterized by its use of repeating floral motifs and decorative borders. These patterns are not merely aesthetic choices but are symbolic representations of nature and garden themes prevalent in the art of the region. The deep red field seen here is a classic choice, providing a dramatic backdrop that makes the intricate, multi-coloured floral details pop with vivid clarity.

Collecting a rug from this tradition is about more than just decoration; it is about preserving a legacy of skill. These rugs are valued by enthusiasts for their cultural weight and the undeniable evidence of human touch found in every inch. When you own a Wiss rug, you are holding a piece of history that reflects the patience and dedication of the artisans who brought it to life.

This Wiss rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and precision. Each individual knot is tied by hand onto a sturdy cotton foundation, ensuring that the finished product has a robust structure that resists wear and maintains its shape over time.

With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, this rug represents a significant investment of human effort. Given its size of 198 x 120 cm, the total knot count is substantial, requiring a skilled artisan to work for months to complete the piece. This high level of density is what gives the rug its sharp, clear pattern definition and its dense, luxurious pile.

The weight of 10.2 kg further illustrates the quality of the construction. This density of material ensures that the rug lies flat and remains stable on your floor, while the careful tensioning during the knotting process guarantees a long-lasting, resilient surface that can withstand daily life in a busy home.
