Brown / Black138 x 198 cm

Turkaman rugs originate from the nomadic tribes of Central Asia, a region with a deep-seated history of textile arts. Over centuries, these traditions migrated and evolved, with the finest contemporary examples often attributed to weaving centres in the broader Middle Eastern landscape where the ancient techniques have been preserved and refined.

The term Turkaman refers to these specific tribal traditions, often characterised by a focus on high-quality wool and a specific, dense knotting style. This construction is vital, as it creates a firm, durable foundation that allows the intricate patterns to remain clear and vibrant throughout the life of the rug.

Signature design elements of this tradition include repeating geometric motifs, often referred to as guls, which are stylised medallions arranged in orderly rows. This particular piece showcases a masterful use of these forms, framed by decorative borders that anchor the composition and highlight the weaver's eye for symmetry.

These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their cultural weight and the undeniable skill required to produce them. Owning a piece from this tradition is more than just decorating a floor; it is an act of preserving a historic craft, connecting your modern home to a long lineage of nomadic artistry and human ingenuity.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense patience and precision. Given its size and density, creating this piece is a labour-intensive endeavour that reflects a deep commitment to preserving traditional craft techniques.

With a density of 250,000 knots per m2, the construction is exceptionally solid. This high knot count allows for the sharp, clear definition of the geometric patterns and ensures that the pile remains dense and resilient over time, standing up well to the demands of everyday use.

The heavy weight of 9.6 kg further demonstrates the significant amount of material and human effort invested in its creation. This substantial construction is a testament to the artisan's skill and ensures the rug lies flat and remains a sturdy, long-lasting investment for your home.
