Tabriz RoyalHand KnottedRug

Black / Brown90 x 168 cm

The Tabriz rug tradition is one of the most storied in the Middle East, originating in the historical city of Tabriz. Over centuries, these designs have evolved, moving from royal courts to become a benchmark for weaving excellence. Today, the tradition continues to thrive through skilled artisans in India who maintain these rigorous standards of artistry.

The term Tabriz often refers to a specific approach to design that emphasises balanced, sophisticated layouts. These rugs are known for their technical precision, where the density of the knots allows for detailed floral and geometric motifs that would be impossible to achieve in coarser weaving styles. This precision is what makes the design appear so crisp and vibrant.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their central medallions and ornate, flowing borders. The design language is one of harmony, often incorporating intricate floral scrolls and balanced symmetry. While traditional palettes often lean toward deep, rich tones, the specific interplay of colours in this piece highlights the depth and care put into every inch of the composition.

Collecting a rug from this lineage is about more than just floor decor. It is an appreciation for a craft that has been refined over generations. By bringing this piece into your home, you are connecting with a long-standing heritage of skill and aesthetic beauty that continues to be celebrated by collectors worldwide.

This rug is carefully hand-knotted, a process that relies on the dedication and precision of skilled artisans. Each individual knot is tied by hand, creating a robust construction that provides the rug with its impressive durability and structural integrity.

With a weight of 6 kg across its 168 x 90 cm frame, this rug demonstrates a significant investment of high-quality materials and labour. This weight is a testament to the density of the pile and the strength of the foundation, ensuring that the rug maintains its shape and beauty even in frequently used areas of your home.
