Tabriz RoyalHand KnottedRug

Black / BrownRunner79 x 375 cm

The Tabriz rug tradition takes its name from the historic city of Tabriz in the Middle East, a legendary centre for carpet weaving that has influenced textile design for centuries. While the style originated in this ancient hub, the tradition has travelled and evolved, with master weavers in India now carrying forward these complex techniques to create stunning, modern interpretations.

The term Tabriz is synonymous with high-level technical skill, often characterised by the use of complex, multi-layered designs. These rugs are known for their ability to incorporate a wide variety of motifs into a single field, requiring a high degree of mathematical precision and artistic vision during the design phase.

Signature design elements of this tradition often include a central medallion surrounded by dense, flowing floral arrangements and intricate borders. The layout is typically formal and balanced, reflecting a desire to create a sense of harmony and order through patterns that draw the eye across the entire surface of the piece.

Collectors value these rugs for their ability to bridge the gap between historic artistry and modern interior needs. Owning a piece from this lineage is an investment in a tradition that prizes patience and human skill, offering a lasting connection to the rich history of textile craft.

This runner is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate significant time to ensure each individual knot is placed with precision. This demanding process allows for the intricate, sharp patterns that define the Tabriz style, creating a durable structure that resists wear and tear far better than mass-produced alternatives.

The craftsmanship behind this piece is evident in its substantial weight of 11.9 kg, which signals a dense, high-quality construction. The effort required to weave a runner of this length and density is extensive, reflecting a commitment to quality that ensures the rug remains a staple in your home for generations.
