Tabriz RoyalHand KnottedRug

Brown / Orange235 x 340 cm

The Tabriz rug tradition originates from the historic city of Tabriz in the Middle East, a major centre for carpet production along the ancient Silk Road. For centuries, this region has been known for its ability to synthesise diverse artistic influences, evolving into a hallmark of refined, high-quality carpet weaving that is now celebrated globally.

The term Tabriz signifies more than just a place of origin; it represents a standard of technical mastery. These rugs are known for their sophisticated use of varied knotting techniques and high-density construction, which allows for the fluid, curvilinear patterns that define the style. This structural density is what gives the rugs their longevity and allows the intricate designs to remain crisp and clear for generations.

Visually, these rugs are often defined by a central medallion surrounded by a field of dense floral or geometric ornamentation, all framed by a wide, decorative border. This specific piece draws on those traditional elements, using a balanced layout that reflects the classic aesthetic of the region while showcasing the unique, hand-crafted interpretation of the weaver.

Collecting a rug from this tradition is an investment in cultural heritage. These pieces are valued not only for their beauty but for the centuries of skill they represent. Owning one allows you to participate in a living history, as these rugs are designed to be passed down as family treasures, growing more beautiful and characterful with the passage of time.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense skill and patience. By tying each knot individually by hand, the artisans create a structure that is both remarkably durable and capable of holding fine, complex details across the entire surface.

With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, this piece represents a significant investment of time and human effort. This high knot count is essential for achieving the sharp, clear design elements you see, as well as creating a pile that is dense enough to withstand years of foot traffic without losing its form.

The quality of this construction is further evidenced by its substantial weight of 32 kg. This weight indicates a generous use of materials and a tight, robust foundation, ensuring that the rug stays securely in place while providing a premium, heavy-duty feel that signals superior craftsmanship.
