Brown / Orange185 x 246 cm

The Tabriz rug tradition hails from the historic city of Tabriz in the Middle East, a centre of culture and commerce that has served as a crossroads for artistic exchange for centuries. While the style originated in this storied region, the tradition has evolved and travelled, with talented weavers in India now carrying forward these techniques to create pieces that honour the legacy of the original masters.

The term Tabriz is synonymous with technical excellence and high-density weaving. These rugs are celebrated for their ability to incorporate a wide variety of designs, often featuring complex medallions and intricate floral motifs. The construction of these pieces is designed to provide both durability and a refined finish, allowing the fine details of the patterns to remain crisp and clear over time.

Visually, the Tabriz tradition is characterised by a formal, balanced composition. A classic layout typically features a central medallion surrounded by a field of densely packed floral vines or geometric elements, all framed by a wide, detailed border. This specific rug showcases these signature elements, with its rich colours and ornate motifs creating a harmonious and balanced aesthetic.

Collectors value Tabriz rugs for their combination of artistic vision and functional longevity. Owning a piece from this tradition is a way of participating in a long history of craft, where skill and patience are woven into every thread. These rugs are more than just floor coverings; they are cultural artefacts that bring heritage and a sense of enduring quality to any contemporary home.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate immense time and effort to every individual loop. The process is a labour-intensive journey that requires a high level of expertise, ensuring that each knot is secured to create a durable, long-lasting foundation that maintains its integrity even with daily use.

With a weight of 18.2 kg spread across its generous dimensions, this rug demonstrates a high density of material that speaks to the quality of its construction. The significant weight is a direct result of the dense pile and strong foundation, which together provide the substantial feel and resilience characteristic of a premium, hand-knotted piece.

The precision required to execute such a complex pattern by hand is substantial, demanding a steady hand and a keen eye for detail. This investment of human skill is what allows for the sharpness of the design and the density of the pile, resulting in a floor covering that is as structurally sound as it is visually captivating.
