Tabriz Antique - A Story Woven in Wool

Discover a genuine antique Tabriz rug, offering a truly one-of-a-kind heritage piece crafted with 100 percent wool and rich floral motifs.

Bringing a deep sense of history and character into the home, this antique Tabriz rug offers a remarkably soft 100 percent wool pile underfoot.

At 10 mm thick, it provides a warm and cushioning surface that naturally softens footsteps and dampens room sound, creating a quiet and inviting atmosphere in any living space.

The tactile experience is defined by the dense and resilient nature of 100 percent wool, which yields comfortably to the touch while retaining its shape over years of daily life.

The pile holds warmth exceptionally well, making hardwood floors feel much more welcoming during cooler months.

With a knot density of 250,000 knots per m2, the pattern achieves a remarkably fine level of detail and a dense pile that supports long-term durability. This high concentration of knots creates a firm yet yielding surface that withstands regular use while maintaining its soft texture.

Because this piece is genuinely one of a kind, no two rugs in the world are identical, and this exact design will never be made again.

Hailing from Persia, this antique creation carries a distinct provenance that ensures your home is adorned with something truly authentic and irreplaceable.

Tabriz rugs originate from one of the oldest rug-weaving centres in Persia, situated in the historic city of Tabriz along major trading routes.

For centuries, master weavers in this region have refined their craft, combining local traditions with influences from classical court designs to create some of the most sought-after floor coverings in the world.

The designation of 50 Raj refers to a traditional Persian counting system that measures the fineness of the foundation by counting the number of knots in a specific width.

A higher raj count indicates a tighter, more intricate foundation structure, allowing artisans to weave exceptionally detailed floral patterns and achieve a finer, more durable pile.

The design traditions of Tabriz are famous for their sophisticated pictorial and floral motifs, often featuring elaborate central medallions, vases, and intricate garden scenes enclosed by multi-tiered borders.

This particular piece showcases traditional red and dark blue tones, arranged in a balanced composition that reflects generations of artistic refinement.

Collecting antique rugs from this esteemed region means preserving a tangible piece of textile history.

Owning a Tabriz piece connects your home to an enduring legacy of artisan skill, offering a level of cultural depth and craftsmanship that modern manufacturing simply cannot replicate.

Every single knot in this handmade creation was tied individually by skilled hands over many months of careful labour.

Crafting a rug of this size and intricacy requires immense dedication, with artisans passing down techniques across generations to achieve such remarkable precision and structural integrity.

The construction features a knot density of 250,000 knots per m2, resulting in approximately 682,500 individual knots across the entire surface.

This dense arrangement requires disciplined handwork that ensures the wool pile stays upright and tightly bound, providing both exceptional pattern clarity and lasting resilience.

Weighing 8.2 kg across 195 x 140 cm, the substantial weight reflects the dense distribution of material and the sheer volume of human effort invested in its creation.

This careful balance of weight and knot count guarantees a robust foundation that will stand the test of time.
