This rug is a beautiful example of Middle Eastern craftsmanship, bringing a storied tradition of weaving directly into your home. Its distinctive character and robust construction ensure it is not just a floor covering, but a lasting investment in your home's comfort and personal style.

Shiraz rugs originate from the Fars province in the Middle East, a region with a long and storied history of nomadic and semi-nomadic weaving. These rugs are traditionally created by various tribal groups, including the Qashqai, who have moved through these lands for centuries, carrying their weaving traditions with them as they travelled.

The construction of these rugs relies on wool for both the pile and the foundation, a practical choice for nomadic life that offers natural durability and ease of maintenance. This all-wool construction is highly valued for its ability to produce a soft yet sturdy pile that ages gracefully, developing a unique character over time.

Visually, Shiraz rugs are known for their lively and often geometric designs. Common motifs include stylised floral elements, birds, and the iconic medallion, often set against a deep, rich field of dark-red or black. These patterns are not merely decorative but are deeply rooted in the tribal identity and the natural surroundings of the weavers.

Collectors and enthusiasts value these rugs for their authenticity and the human story they tell. Owning a Shiraz rug is an opportunity to connect with a centuries-old tradition of skill and artistic expression, ensuring that the heritage of these tribal weavers continues to be celebrated in modern homes.

This Shiraz rug is entirely hand-knotted, a labour-intensive process that requires immense patience and skill. By tying each individual knot by hand, the artisan ensures a level of structural integrity and pattern clarity that simply cannot be achieved by machine production.

With a total weight of 22.6 kg, this rug reflects the substantial amount of high-quality wool used in its creation. This density provides a heavy, stable foundation that helps the rug lie flat and resist wear, ensuring it remains a staple in your home for many years to come.

The sheer time and human effort invested in this hand-knotted piece are evident in every detail. From the precision of the borders to the consistency of the pile, the work reflects a dedication to a craft that has been passed down through generations, resulting in a durable and characterful finish.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
