Shiraz - A Vibrant Expression of Tribal Artistry

This authentic one-of-a-kind rug is a stunning example of traditional tribal weaving, showcasing rich, earthy tones and a bold, iconic medallion design that brings warmth to any room.

This beautiful hand-knotted rug from the Middle East captures the soul of nomadic artistry. Its dense, wool pile offers a soft and comforting feel underfoot while providing excellent insulation and natural sound-dampening qualities, making it a perfect addition to a cosy living space or study.

The piece features a striking central medallion framed by intricate geometric motifs that tell a story of tradition and heritage. Because each rug is individually crafted, this specific piece is entirely one-of-a-kind, ensuring that you own a unique work of art that will never be replicated.

The vibrant colour palette, dominated by deep reds and earthy accents, brings a sense of grounded elegance to your interior. Its robust construction ensures that it is not only a visual centrepiece but also a durable companion that will withstand daily life while retaining its rich, saturated appearance.

Choosing a piece like this means embracing a legacy of craft that values both beauty and function. Whether placed in a high-traffic area or used as an accent, its presence adds a layer of character and authentic warmth that only a genuine hand-knotted rug can provide.

The Shiraz rugs take their name from the historic city in the Middle East, a hub of culture and commerce. These rugs are traditionally woven by tribal groups who have migrated across the region for centuries, carrying with them a distinct visual language that has evolved to reflect their environment and their storied history.

The term hand-knotted refers to the traditional method of creating the pile by tying individual strands of wool onto a foundation. This technique is what gives the rug its signature density and longevity. By using high-quality wool, the weavers ensure that the pile remains lustrous and resistant to wear, making these pieces true heirlooms.

Design-wise, Shiraz rugs are famous for their bold, geometric approach. You will often find large, dominant medallions set against a field filled with symbolic motifs, including stylised animals, plants, and abstract shapes that hold significant cultural meaning. The borders are typically formal yet expressive, framing the chaotic beauty of the centre with precision.

Owning a piece from this tradition is about more than just decor; it is about preserving a craft that connects the modern home to ancient nomadic roots. Collectors value these rugs for their unpretentious charm and the undeniable skill required to produce them. Each rug serves as a tangible link to the past, offering a level of cultural weight and authentic character that is increasingly rare in today's world.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a labour-intensive process that reflects the dedication of skilled artisans. By tying each individual knot by hand, the weavers ensure a level of structural integrity and pattern precision that machines simply cannot replicate, resulting in a pile that is both resilient and luxurious.

With a weight of 6.1 kg across its 155 x 132 cm dimensions, the rug possesses a substantial, heavy feel that speaks to the quality of materials used. This density is a direct result of the hours of patient, human effort invested in its creation, ensuring that the rug remains stable and durable for years to come.

The process of creating such a piece is deeply rooted in tradition, where every detail is carefully considered during the weaving phase. The substantial weight and tight construction indicate a high level of craftsmanship, providing you with a reliable and long-lasting floor covering that honours the ancient techniques of its origin.
