ShirazHand KnottedWool rug

Dark red / Brown128 x 195 cm

Shiraz rugs are deeply rooted in the nomadic traditions of the Fars province in the Middle East. Historically woven by various tribal groups, these rugs were created to be functional necessities for migratory life, serving as floor coverings, blankets, and storage bags, which explains their robust construction and practical design.

The term hand-knotted refers to the traditional method where individual strands of Wool are tied onto a foundation of warp and weft threads. This labour-intensive process is what gives these rugs their exceptional longevity and character, as the tension of each knot contributes to the overall stability and tactile quality of the finished textile.

Signature design elements of these rugs often include geometric medallions and stylized floral motifs, frequently arranged in a way that tells a story of the weaver's environment. The use of a bold red field is a classic hallmark of the style, often contrasted with deep blue and ivory accents to create a striking, balanced visual impact that feels both grounded and vibrant.

Collectors value these rugs for their authentic representation of tribal history and the genuine human effort embedded in every strand. Owning a piece from this tradition is an opportunity to preserve a legacy of skill and cultural expression, bringing a piece of living history into your home that is as durable as it is beautiful.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to complete every individual piece. With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, the construction process is highly precise, requiring a steady hand and an eye for detail to ensure the pattern remains sharp and the pile is consistently dense.

The total knot count for a rug of this size reflects the immense labour involved, as each knot is tied individually to the foundation. This intensive method not only defines the rug's durability but also ensures that the final product can maintain its structural integrity and aesthetic clarity for many years to come.

Weighing 12.5 kg, this rug demonstrates the substantial amount of high-quality Wool used to create its dense, resilient pile. This weight is a testament to the artisan's commitment to quality, ensuring that the rug stays firmly in place while providing a luxurious, cushioned feel that only a hand-knotted piece can offer.
