Shiraz - A Vibrant Expression of Tribal Art

Discover the soul of Middle Eastern craftsmanship with this truly one-of-a-kind, hand-knotted Shiraz rug, featuring bold geometric motifs and a rich, warm palette that anchors any room with authentic character.

This authentic Shiraz rug brings a sense of grounded warmth and historic depth to your home. Woven from soft, resilient wool, it offers a plush, tactile experience underfoot, providing both acoustic comfort and a cosy, inviting feel that transforms a living space into a sanctuary.

The visual impact of this piece lies in its deep, saturated tones and striking geometric layout. The wool pile creates a natural, subtle sheen that catches the light differently throughout the day, ensuring the rug remains a dynamic focal point in your interior.

As a one-of-a-kind creation, this rug possesses a unique character that cannot be replicated. Its patterns and colour variations are the result of an individual artisan's vision, meaning that when you bring this piece into your home, you are acquiring a singular work of art that will never exist anywhere else.

Designed for lasting beauty, the robust construction ensures this rug stands up to the demands of everyday life while maintaining its charm. Its provenance from the Middle East reflects a long-standing tradition of rug-making that prioritises both aesthetic beauty and practical, long-term durability.

The Shiraz rug tradition originates from the Fars province in the Middle East, a region with a deep-rooted history of nomadic and semi-nomadic weaving. These rugs are historically connected to the Qashqai and other tribal groups who have migrated through the rugged landscapes of the Zagros Mountains for centuries, carrying their weaving traditions with them.

The term Shiraz refers to the regional market centre where these tribal rugs were historically traded. Unlike the highly formalised styles found in urban workshops, Shiraz rugs are known for their spontaneous and expressive nature, reflecting the cultural heritage and personal storytelling of the tribes who create them.

Signature design elements often include bold, geometric medallions, stylised animal motifs, and intricate, multi-layered borders. The use of deep reds and dark, earthy tones is classic to the region, often contrasted by lighter, neutral accents that highlight the sharpness of the pattern. These designs are not merely decorative but often contain symbolic meanings rooted in the daily lives and beliefs of the weavers.

Owning a piece from this tradition is a way to connect with a lineage of craft that has remained largely unchanged for generations. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their authentic, tribal aesthetic and the undeniable skill required to produce them without the aid of modern technology, making them a meaningful addition to any home.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate weeks of focused labour to bring the design to life. The process begins with the careful preparation of the wool, followed by the complex task of hand-tying every individual knot onto a sturdy foundation. This labour-intensive method is what gives the rug its exceptional density and structural integrity.

With a total weight of 5.1 kg distributed across its dimensions, this rug is a substantial piece that speaks to the quality of the materials used. The significant weight per square metre is a testament to the high density of the wool pile, which provides a plush, comfortable texture and ensures the rug remains firmly in place while resisting wear over many years of use.

The precision required to execute these intricate geometric patterns by hand is a hallmark of the craft. Each movement of the weaver's hands contributes to the overall tension and pile height, resulting in a consistent, high-quality finish that machine-made alternatives simply cannot match. This dedication to traditional methods ensures that the final product is not only a beautiful floor covering but a durable investment.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
