Shiraz - A Vibrant Heritage Piece for Your Home

Discover this truly one-of-a-kind Shiraz rug, a beautifully hand-knotted treasure from the Middle East that brings rich, authentic character and warmth to any room in your home.

This exquisite Shiraz rug offers a tactile experience that only a genuine hand-knotted piece can provide. The dense wool pile feels soft yet substantial underfoot, offering a natural warmth and excellent sound absorption that makes any space feel more grounded and comfortable.

As a one-of-a-kind item, this rug is a singular expression of artistry. No two pieces are ever identical, meaning the specific arrangement of tribal motifs and the interplay of deep reds and dark blues are unique to this exact rug. Owning it grants you a piece of functional art that will never be replicated.

The rug is a testament to the enduring appeal of Middle Eastern weaving traditions. Its robust construction ensures it is not only a beautiful decorative element but also a durable addition to your home, designed to withstand daily life while maintaining its charm and integrity for years to come.

The intricate patterns are rendered with a clarity that highlights the skill involved in its creation. With a density that provides a firm, supportive surface, this rug is built for longevity. Choosing this piece means inviting a storied tradition into your living space, where the quality of the materials and the depth of the design speak for themselves.

Shiraz rugs originate from the Fars province in the Middle East, a region deeply rooted in nomadic and village weaving traditions. These rugs are famously woven by various tribal groups, including the Qashqai, who have passed down their design language through generations without the use of pre-drawn patterns.

The term Shiraz refers to the regional capital where these rugs were historically traded and collected. While they are often categorised by their origin, the true beauty of these pieces lies in their spontaneous, creative nature, as weavers rely on memory and cultural storytelling to build their designs directly onto the loom.

Signature design elements in Shiraz rugs often feature bold geometric medallions, stylised animals, and floral motifs, all set against a rich, earthy field. The borders are typically filled with intricate, repeating patterns that frame the central design, creating a balanced yet energetic composition that is highly sought after by collectors.

Valued for their authenticity and raw, human touch, these rugs are considered a bridge to an ancient way of life. Owning a Shiraz rug means acquiring a piece of cultural history that celebrates the skill of the weaver and the legacy of the region, ensuring your home is decorated with something truly meaningful.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a labour-intensive process that involves individually tying thousands of wool knots onto a foundation. This traditional method requires immense focus and patience, with a rug of this specific size and density representing weeks of dedicated work by skilled artisans.

The 4.7 kg weight of this 152 x 103 cm piece is a direct reflection of the generous amount of high-quality wool used and the density of the knotting. This heavy, substantial construction is what gives the rug its durability and prevents it from shifting, ensuring it remains a permanent, stable feature in your home.

The precision of the hand-knotting process is evident in the sharpness of the geometric motifs and the structural strength of the borders. Because every single knot is placed by hand, the resulting pile is exceptionally uniform and resilient, offering a level of quality that mass-produced alternatives simply cannot match.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
