ShabarganHand KnottedRug

Dark grey / Dark red195 x 307 cm

The Shabargan rug draws its inspiration from the rich weaving traditions of Northern Middle Eastern regions, historically influenced by the movement of nomadic tribes along the ancient Silk Road. These rugs represent a fusion of cultural styles, where geometric precision meets the expressive, storytelling nature of tribal artistry passed down through generations.

The craft of hand-knotting is a cornerstone of this tradition, where the quality of the rug is determined by the care taken in the construction of the pile. By using high-quality Wool, the artisans create a surface that is naturally resilient and soft, offering a tactile quality that improves with age and use, becoming a cherished part of a home's history.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their complex geometric language, often featuring repeating medallions and intricate border work that reflects the weaver's environment and heritage. The inclusion of vibrant, saturated colours against a neutral field is a hallmark of this style, designed to create a sense of harmony and vitality within a living space.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an opportunity to connect with a legacy of skill and patience. These rugs are highly valued by collectors not only for their beauty but for the authentic human effort they embody, making them more than just décor, but a testament to the enduring power of traditional craftsmanship.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans in the Middle East, a region with a deep-rooted history of textile excellence. The process is incredibly labour-intensive, requiring months of patient work to tie each individual knot by hand, which ensures the exceptional durability and longevity of the final piece.

With a total weight of 20.4 kg across its 307 x 195 cm frame, the rug exhibits a substantial, high-density construction. This weight is a direct result of the generous amount of Wool used and the precision involved in the weaving process, which creates a robust foundation capable of withstanding years of use while maintaining its structural integrity.

The commitment to traditional hand-knotting methods means the rug possesses a level of detail and character that machines simply cannot replicate. Every pattern and border is carefully executed by hand, resulting in a product where the human touch is evident in every thread, providing a level of quality that is built to endure.
