ShabarganHand KnottedRug

Green / Brown154 x 198 cm

Shabargan rugs originate from the northern regions of Afghanistan, near the historic town of Shibirghan along ancient trading routes. This tradition draws on centuries of nomadic and village weaving heritage, where craft techniques have been passed down through generations within families.

The 160,000 knots per m2 density represents a high standard of craftsmanship. A finer knot count allows artisans to render intricate curves and detailed floral motifs with striking clarity, while also binding the wool fibres tightly to create a resilient and long-lasting pile.

Traditional Shabargan designs often incorporate botanical motifs, flowering vines, and structured borders that draw inspiration from Persian and Central Asian design vocabularies. This particular piece reinterprets those classic themes on a light blue field, offering a fresh take on a centuries-old artistic tradition.

Collecting a handmade rug from this region connects your home to a deep cultural legacy. Each piece preserves the personal touch and regional expertise of the artisan who made it, making it a meaningful investment in traditional craft.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of careful labour to its creation. Using a knot density of 160,000 knots per m2, the weavers tie approximately 487,088 individual knots by hand to complete a piece of this size.

This high knot count requires meticulous precision and patience, resulting in a firm foundation and a remarkably crisp pattern definition. The dense physical structure ensures the pile stands upright under regular use, providing lasting resilience and structural integrity.

Weighing 9.8 kg across its 198 x 154 cm dimensions, the heavy construction reflects a generous amount of material and intensive hand work invested by the maker. This dedication to craft guarantees a durable floor covering that justifies its place as a premium addition to your home.
