SaroukHand KnottedRug

Brown / Black129 x 198 cm

The Sarough rug tradition finds its roots in the small village of the same name in the central part of the Middle East. Historically, this region became famous for producing rugs that were highly sought after for their durability and their balanced, sophisticated designs. These rugs were often exported to international markets where they gained a reputation for being some of the most reliable and aesthetically pleasing floor coverings available.

The term Sarough refers not just to a location but to a specific, high-quality standard of weaving. These pieces are known for their sturdy foundation and the use of high-quality Wool, which gives them a dense, heavy pile that is both soft to the touch and incredibly long-lasting. This technical quality is a hallmark of the tradition, as weavers in the area were historically dedicated to creating pieces that could be passed down through generations.

Visually, these rugs are often defined by their flowing floral patterns, ornate vines, and centrally placed medallions. The design language is deeply rooted in the artistic traditions of the Middle East, often reflecting the beauty of traditional gardens. The colours are usually rich and varied, with the light, neutral field often serving as a perfect canvas for the vibrant, blooming motifs that are characteristic of the style.

Collecting a Sarough rug is an investment in a living heritage that bridges the gap between historical artistry and modern home comfort. These rugs are valued not just for their beauty, but for the immense skill required to produce them. Owning one is a way to celebrate a craft that has been refined over centuries, bringing a piece of cultural history into your home that is as relevant today as it was when the tradition first flourished.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that represents hundreds of hours of focused, skilled labour. By tying each individual knot by hand, the artisan ensures a level of structural integrity and pattern precision that machines cannot replicate. This slow, deliberate approach to creation is what gives the rug its exceptional durability and its ability to withstand the test of time.

With a density of 250,000 knots per m2, the rug features a remarkably fine and dense pile. This high knot count is the secret behind the crispness of the floral details and the luxurious feel of the Wool. A higher density means more material is packed into the foundation, resulting in a heavier, more resilient rug that will not easily lose its form or vibrancy, even in areas with regular movement.

The weight of 7.7 kg for this 198 x 129 cm rug is a direct reflection of the quality and amount of high-grade Wool used. This substantial weight provides a reassuring stability on the floor and speaks to the generous use of premium fibres. Every aspect of its production, from the tension of the foundation to the final trim, is managed with the goal of creating a lasting piece of home decor.
