Black / Brown236 x 302 cm

The Sarough rug tradition finds its roots in the village of Sarouk, located in the central region of the Middle East. Historically, these rugs became world-renowned during the early 20th century, particularly when they were exported to Western markets as 'American' Saroughs to meet the high demand for durable, finely crafted floor coverings.

The term Sarough refers to a specific style of construction that emphasises a dense foundation and a high-quality wool pile. This traditional approach ensures that the rugs are not only beautiful but also exceptionally resilient, making them a favoured choice for areas of the home that see frequent use.

Visually, these rugs are celebrated for their sophisticated floral arrangements, often featuring intricate vines, palmettos, and central medallions set against a deep, vibrant field. The borders are typically formal and balanced, echoing the elegance of the central design and providing a structured frame that highlights the complexity of the internal motifs.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an opportunity to connect with a long history of craftsmanship. Collectors and homeowners alike value these rugs for their ability to bring a sense of heritage and refined artistry into a modern setting, proving that true quality is always in style.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires significant time and human effort to achieve such a refined finish. With a density of 250,000 knots per m2, the creation of this piece involves hundreds of thousands of individual knots, each placed by hand to ensure the structural integrity and precision of the floral design.

The sheer number of knots contributes to a remarkably dense and durable pile that is designed to withstand the rigours of a busy home. This level of craftsmanship ensures that the patterns remain sharp and well-defined, showcasing the skill of the artisans who dedicate months of work to complete a single rug of this size.

The weight of 21.4 kg is a testament to the generous amount of high-quality wool used in its construction. This substantial material weight, combined with the dense knotting, results in a heavy, stable foundation that confirms the premium nature of the hand-knotted construction.
