The Rudbar rug tradition comes from the mountainous regions of the Middle East, where weaving has been a central part of local culture for centuries. These rugs are highly regarded for their ability to balance bold, expressive colours with formal, structured designs that reflect the heritage of the weaving communities.

The quality of a Rudbar rug is defined by the fine wool used in its pile, which is known for its natural lustre and durability. By using traditional hand-knotting techniques, weavers create a pile that is not only soft to the touch but also highly resistant to wear, making these rugs a practical choice for long-term enjoyment.

Signature elements of this style often include repeating geometric medallions or floral motifs centred within a deep, rich field. The borders are typically intricate and frame the central design with precision, showcasing the weaver's ability to maintain symmetry and balance throughout the length of the runner.

Owning a piece from this tradition means connecting with a long-standing history of artistry and skill. Collectors and homeowners alike value these rugs for their cultural weight and the undeniable sense of authenticity they bring to a home, serving as a testament to a craft that continues to thrive through dedicated, hand-worked production.

This runner is entirely hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and precision from skilled artisans. Each individual knot is tied by hand onto the foundation, a traditional method that creates a durable, high-quality structure capable of lasting for generations.

With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, the creation of this 3.77 m2 runner represents a massive investment of time and human effort. This level of detail allows for the intricate, sharp patterns seen in the design and ensures a pile that is consistently dense and resilient.

The weight of 15.1 kg speaks to the substantial amount of wool and cotton used in its construction. This combination of density and weight is a testament to the artisan's commitment to quality, resulting in a runner that stays firmly in place and offers a premium, substantial feel underfoot.
