Owning this rug means introducing a singular element of character and charm into your living area, ensuring your decor remains as distinctive as it is welcoming.

Beyond its visual appeal, this rug offers a dense and resilient pile that is well-suited for high-end living spaces. It provides a quiet, grounded foundation for your furniture, helping to dampen sound and add a layer of warmth to hardwood or stone floors. Its compact construction ensures that it retains its shape and beauty over time, making it a reliable yet refined choice for your home.

Originating from a region renowned for its deep-rooted weaving traditions, this piece carries the legacy of centuries of skill. The attention to detail is evident in every corner, from the balanced medallion to the carefully composed border. This is more than just a floor covering; it is a permanent investment in quality and beauty that will serve as a conversation piece for years to come.

Ghom rugs originate from the city of Qum in the Middle East, a centre known for its historical and religious significance. While the city itself is not as ancient as other weaving hubs, it emerged as a premier location for high-end, artistic rug production during the 20th century. Weavers in this region are celebrated for their ability to push the boundaries of traditional design, often incorporating fine silk to achieve a level of detail that is difficult to replicate with other fibres.

The technical brilliance of a Ghom rug lies in its construction. Using silk for both the pile and the foundation results in a fabric that is both incredibly strong and exceptionally fine. This material choice allows for a high knot density, which is the secret behind the crisp, painterly quality of the patterns. This combination of material and technique creates a lustrous, thin, and durable floor covering that is prized for its longevity and aesthetic versatility.

The design language of these rugs is deeply influenced by classical Middle Eastern motifs, yet they are often distinguished by their unique colour palettes and the incorporation of intricate floral and garden imagery. You will frequently find complex medallions, scrolling vines, and delicate blossoms that fill the field with rhythmic, balanced beauty. The borders are often just as detailed, serving as a frame that enhances the central narrative of the rug.

Owning a Ghom silk rug is an entry into a tradition of excellence. These pieces are highly sought after by collectors not only for their beauty but for the immense skill required to produce them. To possess one is to appreciate the culmination of a craft that values precision, cultural heritage, and the pursuit of visual perfection, making these rugs a centrepiece of any refined interior.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused labour to complete a single piece. The process begins with the careful selection of high-quality silk, which is then knotted by hand onto a silk foundation, a technique that requires immense patience and a steady hand. The high density of knots allows for the incredibly sharp, fluid lines and detailed patterns that define this traditional style.

With a density of 810,000 knots per m2, this rug represents a significant investment in human skill and time. This high knot count not only enables the complex floral imagery but also results in an exceptionally durable and dense pile that will withstand daily use. The effort required to achieve this level of precision ensures that the finished product is not only visually stunning but also structurally robust.

Jedwab
