Investing in this rug means choosing a piece that balances beauty with lasting quality. Its ability to maintain its vibrant appearance over time makes it a cherished addition to any collection. As a one-of-a-kind creation, it offers an opportunity to own a fragment of Middle Eastern textile history, providing your home with a distinct character that feels both personal and thoughtfully curated.

Ghom rugs originate from the holy city of Qum in the Middle East, a region that has become world-renowned for its exceptional silk weaving traditions. While the city itself does not have a centuries-old history of rug weaving compared to other centres, it rose to prominence in the 20th century by rapidly innovating and adopting the finest techniques from across the region. Today, these rugs are celebrated as some of the most sophisticated examples of modern textile artistry.

The term Ghom silk refers to the use of fine silk throughout the entire construction of the rug, from the pile to the foundation. Silk is prized in weaving for its incredible strength, natural lustre, and ability to hold fine dyes, which allows for the creation of exceptionally detailed and vibrant designs. This material choice is what gives the rug its signature light-reflecting quality and soft, supple handle that makes it so sought after by collectors.

The visual language of Ghom rugs is defined by its diversity and technical prowess, often incorporating complex floral motifs, hunting scenes, or intricate medallion patterns. These rugs frequently draw inspiration from traditional garden themes, filling the field with ornate vines and blossoms that are framed by multi-layered, detailed borders. The high level of artistry allows for a level of design complexity that is rarely seen in other traditions.

Owning a Ghom silk rug is an investment in cultural heritage and masterful skill. Collectors value these pieces not only for their beauty but for the immense dedication required to produce such fine, detailed work. By bringing this rug into your home, you are acquiring a piece of contemporary Middle Eastern craft that represents the pinnacle of artistic expression and enduring quality.

This rug is created through a meticulous hand-knotted process, requiring immense focus and patience from skilled artisans. Each individual knot is tied by hand, a labour-intensive method that ensures the structural integrity and longevity of the piece. This traditional approach is what gives the rug its exceptional durability and allows for the incredibly fine detail seen in the intricate floral patterns.

With a density of 810,000 knots per m2, this rug represents a significant investment of time and human skill. This high knot count is essential for achieving the sharp, clear design and the dense, luxurious pile that defines the Ghom style. Such precision ensures that the rug remains a resilient, high-performing floor covering that retains its beauty for years to come.

The construction reflects a commitment to traditional craft that cannot be replicated by machines. By using 4.6 kg of high-quality materials across its 1.51 m2 surface, the rug achieves a substantial, high-density build. This weight is a direct result of the dense knotting process, signalling the quality and effort poured into every square centimetre of this unique creation.

Silke
