Originating from the renowned weaving traditions of the Middle East, this rug carries a history of artistic expression and dedicated craftsmanship. Its refined patterns and polished finish make it a versatile addition to various interior settings, from formal living areas to quiet studies where it can truly stand out as the centrepiece of the room.

The Ghom tradition originates from the holy city of Qum in the Middle East, a region that has become world-famous for producing some of the most refined silk rugs in existence. While the city has a long history of carpet weaving, it was in the early 20th century that it emerged as a major centre for high-quality silk production, quickly gaining a reputation for excellence that rivals older, more established weaving centres.

Technically, these rugs are defined by their incredibly fine construction and the use of high-grade silk, which allows for a level of detail that is difficult to achieve with other fibres. The fine weave enables weavers to create complex, curvilinear designs that look almost like paintings. This density not only contributes to the visual sharpness of the pattern but also creates a surface that is remarkably smooth and durable.

The visual language of a Ghom rug is often characterised by sophisticated floral and arabesque patterns, frequently centred around a prominent medallion. The borders are typically filled with intricate scrolling vines and blossoms, echoing the lush gardens that are a common theme in Middle Eastern art. The use of vibrant yet balanced colours is a signature of this tradition, ensuring the rugs are as much about harmony as they are about complexity.

Collecting a Ghom silk rug is an investment in a living tradition of artistry. These pieces are valued for their remarkable combination of technical precision and artistic vision, representing a height of craft that has been passed down through generations. Owning one means holding a piece of cultural history that continues to be admired for its beauty, refinement, and lasting value.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused work to ensure every detail is perfectly captured. The process involves tying thousands of individual knots to create a dense and durable pile that maintains its integrity and beauty over many years of use.

With 640,000 knots per m2, the precision of this piece is evident in the sharpness of the floral motifs and the clarity of the border designs. This high knot density is a hallmark of premium craftsmanship, providing a smooth surface that highlights the natural lustre of the materials used in its construction.

The substantial weight of 4.6 kg for a rug of this size is a testament to the quality and density of the materials invested in its creation. This weight ensures that the rug lies flat and remains a sturdy, reliable foundation for your home, reflecting the significant human effort and expertise required to complete such a fine piece.
