Ghom Kork/Silk - An Elegant Floral Masterpiece

Discover this truly one-of-a-kind Sarouk rug, featuring a rich, dark field adorned with intricate floral and avian motifs. A remarkable piece that brings warmth and character to your home.

This exceptional Sarouk rug serves as a sophisticated focal point for any room, offering a tactile and visual depth that only a hand-knotted piece can provide. The dense, plush pile offers remarkable comfort underfoot, while its wool construction ensures a natural warmth and effective sound absorption that enhances the cosiness of your living space.

The deep, dark field provides a striking backdrop for the vibrant, meticulously rendered floral and bird motifs. Because this is a one-of-a-kind rug, the specific arrangement of these decorative elements is unique to this piece. Owning it means bringing home an original work of art that will never be replicated, serving as a testament to your personal style and appreciation for authentic craft.

Beyond its visual appeal, the rug is designed for lasting performance. The high density of the knots translates directly into a sturdy, resilient surface that maintains its beauty even in high-traffic areas of the home. This durability ensures that the rug remains a cherished part of your interior for years to come, maturing gracefully over time.

Originating from the renowned weaving traditions of the Middle East, this rug carries with it a sense of heritage and provenance. The contrast between the dark central field and the vibrant border creates a balanced composition that anchors a room. Whether placed in a reading nook or as the centrepiece of a living area, it adds a touch of classic elegance that feels both grounded and refined.

Sarouk rugs are celebrated for their rich history and their evolution into some of the most sought-after pieces from the Middle East. Traditionally, these rugs are known for their sturdy, high-quality wool and their ability to withstand generations of use. While they originated in the village of Sarouk, the style grew to encompass a broader range of sophisticated floral designs that have become synonymous with the region's artistic output.

The term Kork refers to the high-quality, soft wool often harvested from the undercoat of sheep, which provides a lustrous sheen and an exceptionally soft handle. When combined with traditional hand-knotting techniques, this material choice results in a pile that is not only durable but also reflects light beautifully, adding life and movement to the intricate patterns woven into the rug.

The design language of this piece is defined by a central floral composition, often featuring a 'tree of life' or flowing vines, interspersed with stylized birds. The use of a dark field is a classic choice that allows the vibrant colours of the flora and fauna to pop, creating a dramatic contrast. The formal, ornate border frames this scene, providing a sense of balance and structure that is characteristic of the finest examples from this tradition.

Collecting a rug from this heritage is an investment in cultural tradition. These pieces are valued for the immense skill required to execute such complex, curvilinear designs by hand. Owning this rug is an opportunity to preserve a craft tradition that prioritises longevity and beauty, providing your home with a piece that carries real weight and historical significance.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a labour-intensive process that requires immense patience and precision. By individually knotting each strand of wool onto the foundation, the weavers create a structure that is both dense and durable, ensuring the rug can withstand daily life while retaining its intricate pattern clarity.

The substantial weight of 8.2 kg for its size is a clear indicator of the generous amount of material and the high-density construction involved. This weight not only provides a sense of quality and substance when you walk across the rug, but it also reflects the thousands of hours of human effort invested in its creation. Every detail of the floral design is a result of this dedicated manual work, which no machine can truly replicate.

Jedwab
