PatchworkHand KnottedRug

Black230 x 230 cm

Patchwork rugs represent a contemporary evolution of traditional Middle Eastern weaving practices. By repurposing sections from older, often antique, hand-knotted rugs, artisans create new, cohesive designs that breathe fresh life into classic textiles. This practice honours the history of the original pieces while adapting them for modern, aesthetic sensibilities.

The construction of a patchwork rug requires an expert eye for colour and pattern harmony. The artisan must select sections that complement one another in texture and depth, ensuring that the final result feels intentional. This requires a deep understanding of how different wool qualities behave and how they can be combined to form a durable, unified whole.

Signature design elements in these rugs often include the visible seams that delineate each patch, adding a geometric rhythm to the overall composition. While traditional rugs may feature intricate floral or medallion motifs, the patchwork style often highlights the raw, lived-in beauty of the materials themselves, celebrating the fading hues and the history embedded in each individual piece.

Collecting a patchwork rug is an investment in both sustainability and cultural heritage. These pieces are highly valued because they prevent high-quality materials from being discarded, instead transforming them into functional art. Owning one means participating in a cycle of renewal, where the skill of the past is preserved through modern design.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate countless hours to assembling each individual patch. This intensive process ensures that the foundation is strong and the pile is secure, resulting in a durable piece that can withstand the demands of a busy household while maintaining its refined appearance.

Weighing in at 13.8 kg, this rug reflects the significant amount of high-quality wool used in its creation. The substantial weight is a direct indicator of its dense construction and the effort invested in its assembly, providing a sense of quality and stability that lighter, mass-produced alternatives simply cannot match.

The craftsmanship behind this piece is evident in the seamless way the different sections are joined, creating a cohesive visual flow across the 230 x 230 cm surface. By choosing this hand-knotted rug, you are supporting a tradition of manual skill where every decision, from the selection of the wool to the final tension of the knots, is made with precision and care.
