PatchworkHand KnottedRug

Red / Pink159 x 234 cm

Patchwork rugs represent a contemporary evolution in the long-standing tradition of Turkish carpet weaving. Originating from a desire to preserve the beauty of older, worn-out hand-knotted rugs, this practice allows weavers to salvage the best sections of a carpet and reimagine them into new, functional forms. This method honours the history of the materials while adapting them for modern interior design.

The beauty of this tradition lies in the diversity of the fragments used. Each piece may originate from different regions of Turkey, showcasing a variety of tribal motifs, colour palettes, and knotting styles. When these fragments are combined, they create a fascinating dialogue between various design eras, resulting in a rug that feels both familiar and refreshingly new.

The visual language of these rugs is defined by their irregularity and depth. Unlike mass-produced rugs that rely on uniformity, a patchwork piece celebrates the subtle variations in colour and pattern that emerge from different dye lots and aging processes. This creates a surface that is visually dynamic, with each patch offering a different perspective on traditional design motifs.

Collecting a patchwork rug is an investment in the heritage of textile art. It serves as a bridge between the past and the present, ensuring that the skill and effort of previous generations are not lost. Owning one allows you to participate in a cycle of sustainability and appreciation for craftsmanship, making it a meaningful addition to any thoughtful home.

This rug is a product of significant human effort and skill. Each individual section is hand-selected and carefully stitched together to create a balanced, durable finished piece. The construction process requires a keen eye for colour and composition to ensure that the disparate fragments form a harmonious whole.

With a total weight of 9.6 kg spread across its 234 x 159 cm dimensions, this rug demonstrates a high material density that speaks to its quality and resilience. This weight is a direct result of using substantial, high-quality wool segments, which are secured to provide a sturdy and long-lasting foundation for your home.

The assembly of this patchwork piece is a labour-intensive process that honours the longevity of the original materials. By reinforcing these hand-knotted fragments, artisans ensure that the rug maintains its integrity and beauty for years to come. This dedication to craft results in a durable, substantial textile that stands apart from mass-produced alternatives.
