PatchworkHand KnottedRug

Orange / Beige158 x 233 cm

Patchwork rugs represent a modern evolution of an ancient practice, rooted in the desire to preserve and honour the artistry of older carpets. Originating from the rich weaving traditions of Turkey, this style breathes new life into segments of vintage rugs that might otherwise be lost to time, effectively creating a tapestry of cultural history.

The construction of these pieces relies on the expert selection of fragments, often sourced from hand-knotted rugs that have reached the end of their initial life cycle. By identifying sections with the most character and structural soundness, artisans are able to create a new surface that retains the depth, lustre, and complexity of the original weavings.

Design-wise, these rugs often feature a rhythmic arrangement of motifs that echo traditional regional patterns, even when presented in a contemporary grid. The visual language is defined by the subtle variations in dye lots and the gentle wear that comes with age, giving each section a unique patina that cannot be replicated by modern manufacturing.

Collectors value these rugs for their ability to bridge the gap between historical craft and contemporary interior design. Owning such a piece is a commitment to sustainability and a celebration of the human skill required to curate and reconstruct beauty from the fragments of the past.

This rug is created through a meticulous hand-knotted process that transforms individual vintage fragments into a unified, durable whole. Each section is carefully selected and re-assembled by skilled artisans, requiring a high level of precision to ensure the structural integrity and aesthetic flow of the final piece.

With a total weight of 10 kg, this rug demonstrates a high density of materials that speaks to its premium construction. This weight is a direct result of the labour-intensive assembly, where every connection is reinforced to ensure the piece can withstand years of use in your home.

The process of creating a patchwork rug is an exercise in patience and an eye for design, as the artisan must balance colour and texture across the entire surface. By combining these elements, the craft ensures that the final rug is not only visually striking but also robust enough to serve as a long-lasting foundation for any room.
