Pakistan Bokhara 3plyHand KnottedRug

Black / Brown80 x 124 cm

Bokhara rugs take their name from the ancient Silk Road city of Bukhara in Central Asia, a historical hub for trade and textile artistry. While the design lineage traces back to these nomadic Central Asian roots, the finest contemporary examples are woven in Pakistan, where weavers have refined and perfected these classic motifs.

The 3ply designation refers to the construction of the Wool yarn, which is made by twisting three strands together. This technique creates a pile that is notably denser, more lustrous, and more durable than single-ply or 2ply alternatives, ensuring the rug retains its plush character and vivid colour even with regular use.

The visual language of this tradition is defined by its repetitive and symmetrical patterns. The field is typically filled with repeating 'gul' motifs, often shaped like octagons or elephant prints, arranged in precise rows and enclosed by complex, multi-layered borders. These patterns are not merely decorative but are deeply rooted in the cultural identity of the weaving regions.

Owning a hand-knotted rug from this tradition is an investment in cultural heritage and long-term quality. These rugs are highly valued by collectors and enthusiasts alike for the skill required to produce them, the richness of their organic materials, and their ability to anchor a room with a sense of timeless, grounded beauty.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a labour-intensive process that requires immense skill and patience. Each knot is placed by hand, creating a dense, resilient pile that is far more durable than machine-made alternatives. The artisan's dedication to precision ensures that the intricate geometric motifs are crisp, sharp, and consistent across the entire surface.

With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, the construction is exceptionally tight and robust. For a rug of this size, this level of density represents hundreds of hours of focused effort, resulting in a finished product that is both structurally sound and aesthetically refined. This commitment to traditional techniques is exactly what gives the rug its lasting quality and superior feel.
