Pakistan Bokhara 3plyHand KnottedRug

Dark yellow / BrownRunner77 x 475 cm

The story of the Pakistan Bokhara begins with the ancient Silk Road, where the original, nomadic styles from Central Asia were traded and admired. Over generations, these designs migrated and evolved in Pakistan, where local artisans refined the techniques to create some of the most sought-after rugs in the world today.

The 3ply designation refers to the construction of the wool yarn, where three individual strands are twisted together before weaving. This specific technique creates a pile that is exceptionally robust and long-lasting, while also providing a deeper, more lustrous texture that catches the light beautifully.

Visually, these runners are defined by their rhythmic, repeating motifs, often referred to as 'gul' patterns. These octagonal or diamond-shaped designs are arranged in precise rows, framed by intricate, formal borders that provide a sense of balance and structure to the elongated shape of the runner.

Owning a hand-knotted piece from this tradition is about more than just decoration. It is an appreciation of a craft that has been passed down through centuries, representing a bridge between historical artistry and modern home comfort. These rugs are collected for their ability to bring a sense of heritage and warmth into any room.

This runner is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense patience and precision. By individually tying each knot, the weaver ensures a dense, robust construction that is far more durable than machine-made alternatives, allowing the rug to withstand years of use while retaining its structural integrity.

With a density of 250,000 knots per m2 across its 3.65 m2 surface area, this rug represents a significant investment of time and human effort. Creating a piece of this size and complexity takes a professional weaver many months of continuous, focused work to complete.

The quality of the construction is further evidenced by its substantial 11.3 kg weight. This density is a direct result of the high number of knots and the generous amount of wool used, ensuring a heavy, stable foundation that stays firmly in place while providing a superior, dense pile that feels rich and substantial beneath your feet.
