Pakistan Bokhara 3plyHand KnottedRug

Black / Dark yellow77 x 126 cm

Bokhara rugs take their name from the ancient Silk Road city of Bukhara, which served as a vital crossroads for trade and culture in Central Asia. While the designs have deep roots in this historic region, the finest examples of the craft today are primarily produced in Pakistan, where weavers have mastered the intricate techniques required to produce these iconic floor coverings.

The term 3ply refers to the construction of the pile, where three individual strands of Wool are twisted together before being knotted. This method creates a thicker, more resilient, and exceptionally soft yarn. For the user, this means a denser, more luxurious pile that holds its shape and appearance even in high-traffic areas of the home.

The visual language of the Bokhara is defined by its signature gul motifs, which are repeating, octagonal medallions that represent traditional tribal symbols. While these are often seen in warm earth tones, the use of a dramatic black field in this specific rug offers a modern, striking variation that highlights the precision of the white, geometric patterns.

Collecting a rug from this tradition is an investment in cultural heritage. These pieces are valued for their balance of artistic symbolism and functional durability. By bringing such a rug into your home, you are continuing a long lineage of craftsmanship and celebrating the skill required to transform raw materials into a work of lasting beauty.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a labour-intensive process that requires immense patience and skill. By individually tying each knot, the artisan ensures a level of structural integrity and pattern precision that machines simply cannot achieve, resulting in a robust, high-quality rug built to last for many years.

The 3 kg weight of this 126 x 77 cm piece is a testament to the density of the Wool and the tight construction of its foundation. This weight provides a stable, substantial presence on the floor, indicating the significant amount of raw material and human effort invested in its creation from start to finish.

Each element of this rug is a result of hours of focused, manual work. The time required for such a creation ensures that every curve of the motifs and every inch of the border is executed with intention. This dedication to the craft is what elevates the rug from a simple floor covering to a piece of lasting value.
