Black / Dark green170 x 243 cm

Bokhara rugs take their name from the ancient Silk Road city of Bukhara, which was historically a major trading hub for textiles and carpets in Central Asia. While the name is tied to this historic city, the finest examples of these rugs are today primarily woven in Pakistan, where artisans have perfected the tradition over many generations.

The '3ply' designation refers to the construction of the yarn, where three strands of wool are twisted together before being knotted. This technique is significant because it results in a thicker, more lustrous, and exceptionally durable pile. This extra depth in the yarn enhances the overall feel and longevity of the rug, ensuring it remains a staple in your home.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their repetitive 'gul' motifs, which are often octagonal or elephant-foot shaped medallions arranged in precise rows. These patterns are typically framed by elaborate, geometric borders. The use of a dark field in this specific rug offers a striking, modern twist on the classic Bokhara look, making the intricate light-coloured motifs pop with clarity.

Owning a hand-knotted piece from this tradition means connecting with a deep cultural heritage. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their consistency, symmetry, and the incredible level of skill required to produce them. By choosing this rug, you are investing in a piece of textile history that honours the dedication of the artisans who keep this craft alive.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense focus and precision. By individually tying each knot onto a cotton foundation, the weavers ensure a level of structural integrity and pattern clarity that simply cannot be achieved through mechanical means.

With a density of 360,000 knots per m2, this rug represents hundreds of hours of dedicated labour. This high knot density is the secret behind the rug's durability and the sharpness of its complex motifs, resulting in a dense pile that will maintain its appearance and structural health even with daily use.

The substantial weight of 12.8 kg further underscores the quality of materials and the density of the weave. This weight is a direct indicator of the effort invested in creating a product that is not only beautiful but also robust enough to serve your home for generations.
