Pakistan Bokhara 3plyHand KnottedRug

Black / Brown170 x 239 cm

Bokhara rugs are celebrated for their deep historical roots, taking their name from the ancient Silk Road trading hub of Bukhara. While they are inspired by the nomadic traditions of Central Asia, the finest modern examples are predominantly woven in Pakistan, where artisans have perfected these classic patterns with modern precision.

The 3ply construction is a hallmark of superior craft. By twisting three strands of Wool together, the weave gains a unique depth and lustre that single-ply rugs cannot match. This technical choice is significant because it creates a much denser, more durable pile that remains soft and vibrant even after years of use.

Visually, these rugs are defined by the repeating gul motif, which is an iconic, octagonal medallion that represents the tribal heritage of the region. While many traditional examples favour red tones, this rug’s bold, dark colour palette offers a modern and dramatic interpretation of a classic design language, making it a standout for collectors.

Owning a hand-knotted piece from this tradition is an investment in cultural heritage. It represents a bridge between ancient techniques and contemporary design, offering a level of character and craftsmanship that is increasingly rare in the modern world.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a labour-intensive process that requires immense patience and precision. For this specific size, a skilled artisan has carefully tied each of the approximately 1,015,750 knots by hand, a task that demands months of focused work.

The construction utilises a 3ply Wool yarn, which means three individual strands are twisted together to create a single, robust thread. This technique results in a thicker, more durable, and more lustrous pile that is significantly more resilient than standard construction, ensuring the rug stands the test of time.

With a total weight of 12.6 kg, the substantial nature of this piece speaks to the quality of materials and the density of the weave. This weight is a testament to the sheer amount of Wool and effort invested in its creation, resulting in a stable, high-quality foundation that lays beautifully in any room.
