Pakistan Bokhara 2plyHand KnottedRug

Black / BrownRunner77 x 397 cm

Bokhara rugs take their name from the ancient Silk Road city of Bukhara in Central Asia, a historical hub of trade and culture. While the name is rooted in this storied past, the finest examples of these rugs are today masterfully woven in Pakistan, where artisans have honed the tradition to create pieces of remarkable consistency and beauty.

The '2ply' designation is a mark of quality that refers to how the Wool is prepared before weaving. By twisting two strands of Wool together, the yarn becomes stronger and more lustrous, resulting in a pile that is not only softer to the touch but also significantly more durable and capable of retaining its rich colour over many years.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their rhythmic, repeating motifs often referred to as 'gul'—medallions that create a harmonious and balanced field. This particular runner showcases these traditions through its refined border and central imagery, demonstrating a classic aesthetic that feels both orderly and deeply rooted in history.

Owning a hand-knotted rug from this tradition is an investment in cultural heritage and human skill. These pieces are highly valued by collectors for their blend of technical precision and artistic expression, representing a bridge between ancient design languages and the modern home.

This runner is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that demands immense patience and precision from the artisan. With a density of 250,000 knots per m2, the rug is constructed to provide a dense, firm, and durable pile that will withstand daily use while maintaining its intricate design details.

The creation of a rug with these specifications requires significant time and focus, as every individual knot is placed by hand. This labour-intensive approach ensures that the final piece has a superior level of strength and a refined finish that mass-produced alternatives simply cannot match.

With a total weight of 7.6 kg, the substantial nature of this runner is a direct result of the high-quality materials and the dense, careful knotting technique used during production. This weight contributes to the rug's ability to lie flat and secure on your floor, serving as evidence of the craft and effort invested in its making.
