Pakistan Bokhara 2plyHand KnottedRug

Brown / Black190 x 274 cm

Bokhara rugs are deeply rooted in the ancient traditions of Central Asia, taking their name from the legendary Silk Road city of Bukhara. While they draw inspiration from historical tribal weaving cultures, the finest examples today are primarily produced in Pakistan, where artisans have elevated the style with exceptional precision and refined materials.

The '2ply' designation is a mark of quality that distinguishes these rugs from standard variations. By using two strands of Wool twisted together, the pile gains an added layer of depth, softness, and durability. This technical choice results in a more luxurious feel underfoot and a richer visual texture that catches the light beautifully.

The design language of the Bokhara is defined by its iconic repeating gul motifs, which are stylized, octagonal medallions often said to represent elephant footprints. These symbols are arranged in precise rows across the field and enclosed by complex, ornamental borders that frame the composition with a sense of formal elegance.

Collectors value these rugs for their combination of heritage, technical skill, and enduring aesthetic appeal. Owning a Pakistan Bokhara means possessing a piece of a long-standing craft tradition that honours the cultural history of the region while providing a functional and beautiful anchor for the modern home.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that reflects hundreds of hours of dedicated labour. With a density of 360,000 knots per m2, the creation of this 274 x 190 cm piece requires an immense level of precision and patience to achieve such a refined and durable result.

The 2ply construction refers to the use of two strands of Wool twisted together before the knotting process begins. This technique significantly enhances the pile's resilience and lustrous quality, ensuring that the rug is not only soft to the touch but also capable of withstanding daily use while retaining its dense, luxurious texture.

Weighing 13 kg, the rug's substantial construction is a testament to the quality of materials and the effort invested in its making. Every knot is placed by hand, creating a robust foundation that ensures the rug will hold its shape and pattern clarity for generations.
