Pakistan Bokhara 2plyHand KnottedRug

Dark grey / Black169 x 236 cm

The Bokhara rug tradition traces its roots to the ancient Silk Road city of Bukhara, which served as a central hub for trade and cultural exchange in Central Asia. Over centuries, these iconic designs migrated across the region, finding a new and vibrant home in Pakistan where local artisans refined the style to perfection.

The 2ply designation refers to a specific technique where two strands of Wool are twisted together before being used for the pile. This process is essential for creating a rug that is more lustrous, dense, and durable than those made with single-ply yarn, ensuring that the Wool remains soft and vibrant even after years of use.

Bokhara rugs are defined by their signature gul motifs, which are repeating, elephant-foot-shaped medallions arranged in precise rows. These patterns are typically framed by formal, decorative borders that balance the field. While traditional Bokhara rugs often feature deep, earthy tones, this version stands out with its calming blue field, offering a fresh take on a classic design language.

Collecting a rug from this tradition is an act of preserving a legacy of skill and heritage. These pieces are valued not only for their aesthetic appeal but for the immense human effort required to create them. Owning a Bokhara rug connects your home to a long history of textile mastery, making it a meaningful addition to any collection.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to its creation. By tying each individual knot by hand, the weavers ensure a level of structural integrity and pattern precision that simply cannot be replicated by machines.

With a density of 250,000 knots per m2, this rug contains approximately 1 million individual knots across its entire surface. This high knot count is the key to its exceptional durability and the sharp, clear definition of its intricate geometric motifs.

The substantial weight of 10 kg across its 236 x 169 cm frame is a testament to the generous use of premium Wool and the tight, dense construction of the foundation. This density not only enhances the rug's longevity but also ensures a plush, heavy pile that sits securely and provides a sense of quality you can feel every time you walk across it.
