Orange / Brown200 x 305 cm

The Usak rug tradition traces its roots back to the historic town of Uşak in western Turkey, which was once a major centre for rug production during the peak of Ottoman influence. These rugs were highly prized for their grand scale, sophisticated designs, and the use of natural dyes, often finding their way into the homes of European nobility and royal palaces.

Today, the tradition has evolved and flourished in India, where artisans continue to honour the classic Usak aesthetic while applying their own regional expertise. This transition has allowed the style to adapt to contemporary needs, ensuring that the techniques of the past are preserved while meeting the demands for quality and comfort in modern homes.

Usak designs are famously recognised for their large-scale, often geometric or floral-inspired motifs known as medallions or repeating patterns. These designs are intended to create a sense of harmony and balance. The borders are typically well-defined, framing the central field in a way that anchors the visual composition and highlights the artistry within the main body of the rug.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an act of preserving a long-standing craft. Collectors and enthusiasts value these rugs for their ability to bridge the gap between historical significance and everyday utility. By choosing a hand-knotted rug, you are investing in a legacy of skill and patience that adds meaningful cultural weight to your interior environment.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires significant time and dedicated human effort. By securing each strand of Wool individually to the cotton foundation, the artisans ensure a level of durability and precision that creates a dense, robust, and high-quality finish.

With a total weight of 14.6 kg for this size, the rug demonstrates a substantial construction that speaks to the quality of the materials and the density of the knotting. This weight provides stability, ensuring the rug lays flat and maintains its shape through daily foot traffic, reflecting the high standards of craft inherent in its creation.
