Brown / Orange166 x 240 cm

Usak rugs originate from the historic city of Usak in Western Turkey, a region world-renowned for its long-standing tradition of weaving high-quality floor coverings. Historically, these rugs were highly prized by European nobility and appear in many Renaissance paintings, celebrated for their large-scale patterns and rich, warm colour palettes.

The 'Indo' designation refers to the evolution of this craft as it migrated to India. Today, Indian weavers continue the legacy of the Usak style, combining ancestral design principles with refined material selection. This evolution has allowed the classic Usak aesthetic to reach a wider audience while maintaining the core characteristics that made it famous centuries ago.

The signature design elements of the Usak tradition typically include large, stylized medallions and floral patterns, often framed by decorative borders. This particular piece captures that spirit with its central bird motif, an artistic choice that adds a layer of narrative and charm often found in antique regional rugs.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an investment in cultural heritage. These rugs are collected not only for their visual beauty but for the connection they provide to a global history of textile art. By bringing this rug into your home, you are continuing a story of skill and artistic expression that spans generations.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate significant time to ensure each detail is perfectly placed. The process involves securing thousands of individual knots onto a sturdy cotton foundation, a technique that requires immense patience and precision to achieve the final design.

The density of the construction is a direct result of the human effort invested in the weaving process. Weighing 9.6 kg, this rug contains a substantial amount of material, which translates to a dense, robust pile that stands up to daily use. This level of craftsmanship ensures that the rug is not only visually striking but also built to endure.

By choosing a hand-knotted piece, you are supporting a tradition of craft that values quality over speed. The time taken to complete this rug results in a level of durability and pattern clarity that simply cannot be matched by machine-made alternatives, making it a valuable addition to your home.
