Nahavand rugs originate from the historic town of Nahavand in the Middle East, a region known for its long and vibrant history of village weaving. These rugs are celebrated for their rustic charm and the way they translate traditional patterns into a more relaxed, spontaneous style that captures the spirit of their environment.

The term Nahavand often refers to the specific construction and design language developed by local village weavers. By using traditional, high-quality wool, these weavers produce pieces that are known for their durability and a certain earthy, grounded quality that makes them perfect for creating a cosy and inviting home atmosphere.

Visually, these rugs are frequently defined by their bold, often geometric, central medallions and an abundance of stylised, whimsical motifs including birds, flowers, and animals scattered across the field. The borders are typically filled with intricate, repeating patterns that frame the central design, showcasing a mastery of composition and a deep connection to local folklore.

Owning a Nahavand rug means acquiring a piece of cultural heritage that has been passed down through generations of craft. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their authentic, non-industrial character and their ability to bring a sense of history and human story into contemporary living spaces.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that reflects hundreds of hours of focused effort and technical expertise. By individually tying each knot onto a sturdy foundation, the weavers create a level of structural integrity and pattern precision that machines simply cannot replicate.

With a total of approximately 245,000 knots placed by hand across its surface, this rug demonstrates a significant investment of time and human dedication. This high density of knots ensures that the pattern remains sharp and defined, while also contributing to the overall durability and long-term resilience of the pile.

The weight of 13.6 kg is a clear indicator of the generous amount of material used in its creation, signalling a dense and substantial construction. This physical weight, combined with the traditional hand-knotting technique, results in a premium rug that feels solid and well-made, ready to stand the test of time in your living space.
