MoudHand KnottedRug

Brown / Black100 x 156 cm

The Moud rug originates from the town of Moud in the eastern part of the Middle East. This region has long been celebrated for its distinctive weaving traditions, often drawing inspiration from the surrounding desert landscapes and the rich history of classical garden designs. These rugs are highly regarded for their ability to blend formal structure with organic, flowing motifs.

A key feature of the Moud tradition is the use of the Herati pattern, often referred to as the 'fish' motif. This pattern consists of a central flower surrounded by four leaves, which creates a rhythmic, diamond-like grid across the field. This design is not only visually captivating but also requires a high level of technical precision to maintain consistency across the entire surface of the rug.

The colour palette of a Moud rug is typically sophisticated, often utilising deep, earthy tones contrasted with lighter, neutral shades to highlight the details of the central medallion or the repeating patterns. The borders are frequently just as detailed as the centre, often featuring floral vines or complex geometric arrangements that frame the main composition with elegance.

Collectors value Moud rugs for their enduring quality and the depth of their cultural narrative. Owning a piece from this tradition is an opportunity to connect with a legacy of craftsmanship that has been passed down through generations. These rugs serve as a testament to the skill of the weavers and the cultural importance of preserving such traditional artistic practices in the modern home.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a traditional craft that requires immense skill and patience. Each individual knot is placed by hand, a process that can take a single artisan many months to complete. This labour-intensive method is what gives the rug its exceptional strength and density, ensuring it remains a lasting feature in your home.

With 160,000 knots per m2, the level of precision achieved in the pattern is extraordinary. This high knot density allows for the fine, complex details seen in the motifs, creating a sharpness and clarity that defines the quality of the piece. The result is a rug that is not only beautiful but also structurally sound and resilient.

The construction is further supported by a robust foundation that provides the necessary weight of 5.8 kg to help the rug lie flat and stay in place. This combination of high-density knotting and quality materials reflects a level of human effort and technical mastery that ensures your rug is a premium investment for your living space.
