Dark red / Black149 x 187 cm

Mehraban rugs originate from the Hamadan region of the Middle East, an area with a long-standing tradition of producing durable and expressive floor coverings. These rugs are deeply rooted in the local village weaving culture, where designs are passed down through generations, often reflecting the specific aesthetic signature of the weavers in that area.

The construction of these rugs typically involves a sturdy foundation, providing the structural integrity that has made pieces from this region famous for their longevity. The use of high-quality wool is a hallmark of this tradition, selected for its ability to take vibrant, natural dyes and withstand years of foot traffic without losing its lustre.

Visually, these rugs are often defined by their bold, geometric interpretations of floral motifs and central medallions. While they share a common lineage with other regional styles, they are distinct in their use of scale and colour, often favouring robust reds and deep blues that create a strong visual impact in any space.

Collecting a piece from this tradition is an act of preserving heritage. These rugs are valued not just for their utility, but for the skill and cultural narrative embedded in every knot. Owning one means connecting your home to an ancient craft that prioritises human touch and enduring quality over speed.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to every piece. The process begins by mounting the foundation on a loom, where each individual knot is tied by hand to build the structure of the pattern from the ground up.

With a weight of 11.1 kg, this rug reflects a dense, high-quality construction that ensures durability and a substantial feel. This weight is a direct result of the generous amount of wool used, which provides the necessary thickness and resilience to maintain its form and beauty over many years of use.

The precision required to execute this complex design means that every square centimetre is handled with immense care. This labour-intensive craft creates a consistent, high-density pile that not only feels luxurious but also ensures the rug remains a cherished part of your home for generations.
