Mashad rugs hail from the holy city of Mashad in the northeastern Middle East, a region with a long and prestigious tradition of weaving. Historically, these rugs were highly sought after by royalty and elite families, known for their large sizes and elaborate, curvilinear designs that often feature complex floral motifs and intricate central medallions.

The quality of a Mashad rug is defined by the technical mastery of its weavers. The traditional construction utilises a specialised knotting technique that allows for highly detailed, flowing patterns. This approach ensures that the design maintains its clarity and elegance, even in larger formats, which is a hallmark of the finest pieces from this region.

Signature design elements of the Mashad style often include a large, prominent central medallion surrounded by a sea of delicate floral vines, palmettes, and leaves. The borders are typically wide and filled with rhythmic, repeating patterns that frame the field beautifully. This specific piece exhibits a warm, patina-rich palette that highlights the depth of the floral imagery.

These rugs are considered prized possessions for collectors and enthusiasts alike, representing a legacy of skill passed down through generations. Owning a Mashad rug is a way to connect with a rich cultural heritage, as the time and devotion required to weave such a detailed piece are rarely seen in modern manufacturing. It is a lasting tribute to the artistry of the region.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to bring the design to life. Each individual knot is tied by hand, a process that ensures the pattern remains sharp and the pile stays incredibly dense and durable. The sheer volume of labour required to complete a piece of this size is a testament to the dedication and precision of the craft.

With a total weight of 56 kg, this rug demonstrates the high density of its construction and the quality of the materials used. This weight is a direct result of the dense knotting technique, which provides structural integrity and a substantial, luxurious feel. The time and human effort invested in every square centimetre ensure that this is a long-lasting investment for your home.
