The Mahal tradition hails from the Markazi province in the Middle East, a region with a deep-rooted history in textile artistry. These rugs are celebrated for their bold, large-scale floral patterns and a distinctively relaxed, artistic approach to classical motifs that sets them apart from more rigid urban designs.

Mahal rugs are known for their sturdy construction and the use of high-quality, long-staple wool. This material is chosen for its natural lustre and resilience, which allows the rug to develop a beautiful patina as it ages, becoming even more characterful over time.

The visual language of a Mahal rug is typically defined by an all-over floral pattern or a prominent central medallion, framed by wide, elaborate borders. The colours used are often derived from natural dyes, resulting in a rich, harmonious palette that feels both grounded and sophisticated in any home setting.

These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their blend of rustic charm and fine craftsmanship. Owning a Mahal rug connects you to a long lineage of skilled weavers and represents a commitment to enduring quality that transcends fleeting design trends.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and precision. Each knot is tied individually, ensuring a level of structural integrity and pattern clarity that can only be achieved through this traditional method.

The density and weight of 41.7 kg are clear indicators of the significant amount of high-quality material and labour invested in this piece. This construction creates a robust foundation, ensuring the rug lies flat and resists wear over time.

Creating a piece of this size and quality is a time-intensive endeavour that reflects the expertise of the artisans. By choosing this hand-knotted rug, you are supporting a legacy of craft where every detail is considered and every stitch contributes to its long-term resilience.
