One-of-a-kind
LoribaftHand KnottedWool rug
Black / Brown199 x 297 cm

Loribaft - A Piece of Home Worth Keeping

Discover a truly one-of-a-kind handmade Loribaft rug from the Middle East, featuring a cosy brown field and a striking patterned border.
Step into a more grounded living space with this genuine handmade Loribaft rug originating from the Middle East. At 20 mm thick, it offers a wonderfully plush and tactile surface that cushions your steps and brings a warm, inviting feeling to your floors.
The dense wool pile absorbs sound effectively, helping to create a calm and peaceful atmosphere in busy rooms like the living room or bedroom. With a knot density of 160,000 knots per m2, the construction provides exceptional durability and a tight pile that stands up to daily life while maintaining its soft feel underfoot.
Every inch of this floor covering reflects a high level of artisanal care, offering dense material construction that supports long-lasting comfort. The substantial weight of 23.6 kg ensures the rug lies flat and stays securely in place without sliding.
Because this is a completely one-of-a-kind piece, no two rugs are identical, and this exact design will never be made again. Owning it means bringing a truly individual work of functional art into your home that you will enjoy for years to come.
Loribaft rugs originate from the tribal weaving traditions of the Middle East, specifically crafted by communities known for their deep expertise in expressive pile carpets. These traditions draw upon centuries of nomadic artistry, where weavers translated their surrounding landscapes and cultural symbols into durable textiles designed for everyday living.
The term Loribaft refers to a finer, more refined evolution of traditional tribal weaving styles. This technique utilises carefully prepared wool yarn and high knot densities to create a softer, more pliable foundation that still retains the rugged durability characteristic of nomadic craft traditions.
Visually, this tradition is known for its rich, earthy fields contrasted by vibrant, geometric borders filled with repeated motifs like stars and medallions. While traditional pieces often favoured deep red tones, contemporary and regional variations frequently explore warm browns and multicoloured accents that highlight the natural properties of hand-spun wool.
Collecting a piece from this tradition connects your home to a long lineage of textile artistry. Owning a genuine Loribaft means appreciating the skill, patience, and cultural heritage embedded in every knot, making it a valued centrepiece for any thoughtful interior.
This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of careful labour to complete a single piece. Using traditional techniques passed down through generations, every single knot is tied by hand to ensure structural integrity and long-term resilience.
With a knot density of 160,000 knots per m2 distributed across its 297 x 199 cm dimensions, this rug contains approximately 946,000 individually placed knots. This high count requires immense precision and patience, resulting in a dense, supportive pile and sharp pattern definition along the borders.
The heavy construction, weighing a total of 23.6 kg, speaks to the sheer amount of natural wool and human effort invested in its creation. This extensive time and high material density translate directly into a robust, high-quality finished piece built to last for generations.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
